These are the three tap tone goal tap references you can use in tuning these parts: [Click to hear frequency]:
..Now we are ready to fine tune our violin 'plate'. Tap all over the surface and identify areas that are slightly higher or lower than our tap tone goal frequency. Work first in the two outside end areas. Scrape or sand the too high area to match goal frequency; Then mark the too low spots (red dots in drawing = too low spots):
..Scrape this area to raise red dot area that is too low. Probably the circled spot in center area is too high...
Please notice that the relative distance of low area from mode # 5 line is the same as the relative distance from acoustical center to mode # 5 line in the center area.
..Continue this process until you can not find any spots that are different then the goal ideal frequency. Just tap from the acoustical center and then other spots to check accuracy. Double check acoustical center tap tone to our recorded tap tone for accuracy.
..Note: You can tune these tap tones from either side of the plate, fingerboard, or tailpiece. Usually the plates are tuned from inside and the other two are tuned from the top side.
