Now I heat the center bout ribs and double clamp them in the special mold fixtures. They are left to dry overnight. When removed, they will hold their new permanent shape.
The one piece glue liner strips of spruce wood can now also be bent over the bending iron. I have made a fiberglass holding fixture in the same shape as the master exterior mold. The 'clamps' are made by cutting the noses of wood clothes pins short and adding rubber bands as helper springs to increase tension.
The next day, the formed ribs and six blocks are warmed to about 100*F. The violin making glue is mixed and heated to 150*F. Glue is brushed to both the inside surface of the ribs and contacting surfaces of the blocks and tightly clamped in the mold. Short pieces of waxed paper are first inserted against the mold to prevent the glue from reaching the mold surface.
View of the center bout clamps. Excess glue is washed off with warm water from the glue pot. The assembled rib structure is left to dry overnight.
The next morning, all the clamps are moved to the bottom side. Notice that I have made a support base that holds the master mold up so I can manuver the clamps.
