Here the saddle recess is cleaned out and is ready for the gluing in of the ebony saddle.
The' nut' is also fitted to the small end of the fingerboard next to the peg box. It is left slightly high so the string height can be adjusted later.

The hide glue is heated in its water bath to 150*F. and the three ebony wood parts and neck/body are heated to 100*F, then glued and clamped firmly in place. Notice the taped-on reference line on the wide end of the fingerboard. I have a corresponding mark below on the top of the body, (also on a piece of tape), as an alignment aid.
The nut and saddle are also glued and set into position. Again, hot water and a brush are used to wash excess glue from the edges.
Assembly is let to dry overnight.
The next day, after clamps are removed, I begin to smooth the under neck surfaces.
In this view, I have begun to trim the neck base 'button' extension of the back plate to match the neck base.
...Make the neck button 21 mm wide (0.827") and 0.493" to 0.512" in length past the end of the overhand on the back plate.
