Opus # 01

Made in 1709, in Germany by
Georg Klotz, the third son of the famous German violin making family....
...I began my numbering system with this violin. I bought this violin from
Lew Holt of Salem, Oregon. Lew is a gentleman and student of the violin.
...I fell in love with the history and the wonderfully full shape of the body caught my interest.
...Although I did not make this violin it served to get me into violins in a big way. It was this violin that led me into studies of acoustics of violins.. I did expensive plate reworking inside and learned much that I would later apply to my own violins.

...This violin still has its original neck (which was 1/4" shorter in those days).
Notice the unusual age wear marks on the back of the scroll.
