The center bout being sanded with a small drum sander. Carefully sand to the line all the while keeping smooth curves. Remember,even slight variations will be seen when finished.
Here I am hand sanding the small radius using a hardwood dowell which has sand paper glued around in barber pole fashion.
Sanding sticks and the sanding block whch are used for final perimeter shaping.
Now both plates have the same outline. In this step, we need to exactly finish this outline shape as we will machine the purfling channel based on this pattern.
