After clamps are tightened, excess glue is washed off joint with hot (150*F.) water and toweled dry. The hot water helps to reset the glue. (notice that the movable part of clamps are installed away from glued joint). The assembly is stored in a warm place for 24 hours to dry.
Once the glue is dry and the clamps are removed, the hot melt glued braces are sawed and gently pried from the joints, and all hot melt glue is removed from the completed rib structure.
This is a good time to do some detail sanding around the purfling channels and to begin working the edge shapes on the outside of the plates.
Shown here is a curved end sanding stick for used in tight radius corners.
..The glue up process: Clamps are first attached at the end and corner blocks. Then the edge clearance all around is checked and corrected as necessary. Then the remainder of the clamps are put on. Work quickly as the glue congeals as it cools.
